Graduation Transitions ( AKA. A Pain in every Grads Butt)

This year and for the past few years Grads of B.C. have had to do these “ Portfolios” in order to graduate. Over the years the name of the program has changed and each schools does theirs differently but no matter how different it is or how many times they change the program or give it a different name it is still a pain in every Grads butt.

At my school we call it Graduation Transitions. We have these Binders and we have 3 main sections, Personal health, Community Connections, and Career and Life. We get a booklet that has assignments that go into each section, as well we have to collect evidence and have reflections/ explanations for each piece of evidence. After all evidence and assignments have been collected and finished we get them checked off by the teacher in charge of the program and come May we have to be present these binders in a “ Interview” with another teacher at the school during our selected time. We can also add sections to our binder like Sports, Academics, Hobbies, and etc. Also in order to graduate we need to have done 30 hours of work/ volunteer experience. Even though I found that doing this binder was a complete waste of time, it was kind of satisfying to see how much evidence I had to go into it when all was said and done.

I think that when we do these binders you don’t really know how much you actual have done, or you think you don’t have anything to put in there. But by the time your finished you can actually see all the stuff you’ve done, your plans, and your goals. Piece of advice for next years Grads and grads to come DO NOT LEAVE THIS TO THE LAST MINUTE! You will regret trying to scramble around to get all your assignments done.

Spring Semi - Boat Cruise

Spring Semi (Boat Cruise) was this past Saturday, though it was a lot of fun, it wasn’t worth $65. The boat was called the Queen of Diamonds; it had a main level with the bathrooms underneath it, an upstairs, and a sky deck. The view from the deck was beautiful, and you could hear the music coming from downstairs. One downside was the food. There wasn’t enough food and they ran out, some people didn’t even get to eat. But over all we all had fun. The main deck had music booming and everyone was dancing and having a great time. People who didn’t dance seem to enjoy talking to people around them. One of many best things on the boat was the DJ's played the song “I'm on a Boat” which had everyone laughing, and dancing along. My favorite memory of the night besides taking pictures with my friends was me and a few of my friends got this one person to come dance with us, when he insisted he couldn’t dance. But we got him up and dancing and it was really fun.

Catch Up and Count Down

To catch up on the countdown to Grad we had Winter Formal in February. Theme was Night with the Stars. There was a Hollywood sign and stars scattered among the walls with pictures of the 2010 Grad class. There was food, and we danced all night long. People came in cars, limos, and party buses. Pictures we’re taken and everyone had a good time. One thing I learned from this event was ALWAYS WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES!! The reason for that is after 3 hours on the dance floor your feet are going to hurt.

Next on the Event list is one Major event – Spring Semi (Boat Cruise) that is in 2 days, and a minor event is Toga day. Boat Cruise like almost every other grad event requires a dress, shoes, having your hair done, nails and all that fun stuff. We board at 5:30 and stay till about 9:30. I personally am looking forward to a great night of eating, dancing, and having fun with my friends and rest of the grad class. Although, the do side of having so many grad events adds up. My Spring Semi ticket was $65! But I really shouldn’t complain, other people who got their tickets later spent $ 70...
